Born in Texas and raised in England, Brooks St. John is the youngest of three children and cousin to music artist Usher. With all three children exhibiting musical talents, St. John was the only child of the family to take a real interest in writing. But her mother, former backup singer to Tina Turner, was insistent on St. John furthering her education and knowledge in music.

By the age of two St. John began studying classical guitar and by six she had become a well known and accomplished musician, putting on several concerts a year in her home town. But music was not the only thing St. John excelled at.

After a short lived business promoting local musicians, St. John had become a professional artist with the selling of her painting “The Lava Man,” and her early academic years were just as successful. She carries an impressive portfolio of awards and recognition in both mathematics and science, and her extracurricular activities resulted in several volunteer awards, and over thirty 1st place medals and five MVP awards in both track and field.

During her early teenage years, St. John was an avid runner and shot put/discus thrower, as well as a successful decathlete in which she held more medals in Texas TAPPS sponsored events than any other track and field athlete at that time.

Upon entering college, St. John was offered a full music scholarship -- in which she turned down due to believing it would alter her musical style -- however, she did accept a partial scholarship in track and field. But, a month into her training, St. John broke her ankle during a practice jump, which effectively ended her athletic career.

St. John’s academic studies included Humanities, but like athletics, college had proven to be shortlived as well.  Due to personal family reasons, St. John left the university after two years of attending.  Less than a year later, she left home and began traveling with a missionary family, where she refocused her passions on writing.

After returning from Tibet, St. John made her living as a professional photographer while mastering the art of screenplay writing, where she wrote several well received screenplays such as Sons of England and Shadow of a King.

In early 2006 she started presenting her plans for the foundation, UYLA (Urban Youth Lit Association) to patrons of education and literary societies for funding. The foundation is intended to help underprivileged, talented youth in educational funding and specialized schooling in writing and literature.
